LGBTQ+ Youth Voices and Stories in Music

In Tune Together is a structured, arts-based initiative born from Dr. Gary Lyon’s deep passion for music and the sense of family it has allowed him to build throughout his life. As the leader of the renowned gospel ensemble Living Water, Gary has witnessed firsthand how music creates spaces for healing, self-expression, and belonging.

This program extends that same sense of community to LGBTQ+ youth, providing a platform where their identities are affirmed through storytelling, mentorship, and faith-informed healing. Participants engage in vocal training, guided discussions, and shared musical experiences, all within an environment that nurtures both artistic and personal growth. The program culminates in a short film, capturing the transformative journeys of the participants as they discover their voices, forge meaningful connections, and experience the powerful unity that music can bring.

At the heart of In Tune Together is the belief that music has the power to heal, uplift, and unite. Through hands-on workshops led by experienced facilitators—including Dr. Gary Lyon and Dr. Obadiah Baker—participants explore songwriting, vocal performance, and music production. These sessions provide a creative outlet for self-expression while building confidence and resilience.

Community & Connection

More than just a music program, In Tune Together fosters a supportive community where youth in the LGBTQ+ community can connect, share their experiences, and find belonging. Guided discussions and mentorship opportunities, led by Dr. Lyon, Dr. Baker, Rev. Dr. Crowley and licensed mental health professionals, help participants navigate challenges while forming meaningful relationships with peers and mentors.

Recording & Performance

Every program cycle culminates in a powerful recording session and live performance featuring the Living Water singing group. Participants come together to perform and record a song centered on inclusion, belonging, and love—whether an original composition or a meaningful, pre-existing piece. . With the guidance of Dr. Lyon this final step becomes a transformative moment of reflection, celebration, and artistic achievement.
